Domain Registration and Transfer Assistance
Domain registration and management can now be performed from our site.
First, read the information below about domains and how they work.
Then, select one of the links under "Internet Svcs/Domain Registration"
to begin the registration process.
Anyone can register or transfer a domain if they have the correct information. With
Innovative BusinessNet, you have a choice. We can assist you with your registration,
or you can do it yourself. We do not charge for assisting you with the first domain,
however, we do charge for assisting with additional domains.
Please note: As a reminder to those who are moving from another hosting service or ISP,
while we assist with Domain Registration and Transfers, it is the client’s responsibility
to inform their old ISP that they will no longer be with them. If you are moving from
another ISP, please take the time to inform them that they need to close your account.
Normally, the registration fee for one year is $35, payable to the registrar. Some top
level domains (for example: .ws and .cc) may cost more. You can register a domain for up
to 10 years, depending on the top level domain. The domain registration fee is separate
from any other Innovative BusinessNet costs.
Currently, registrars (see "What is a Registrar") are ONLY accepting
credit card payments. At renewal time you will automatically receive a notice via E-Mail.
Unless a specific billing contact is listed, all invoice and renewal payment requests
will go to the Administrative contact. Neglecting to pay this fee will result in the
expiration of the right to the domain name.
You will need the following information when you register your new domain for the first time:
You will have to choose a login and password for the registrar's site. Please be sure to make note of it.
We suggest starting a file for all domain registration information.
- Administrative Contact: This should be your name. You will have to supply an address, telephone number,
and e-mail address (we can set your e-mail up before you register your domain)
- Billing Contact: This should be the person who pays the bills (perhaps you). You will have to supply
an address, telephone number, and e-mail address. This is the person the registrar will contact at renewal time.
- Technical Contact: This is where you give our information: Enter the following information

Before you complete the process, be sure to print a copy of the application for your records.
If You Want Innovative's Assistance With Your Domain Registration:
If you want us to assist you with the process and fill out all the forms, you will have to either provide us
with
credit card information to pay the registrar, or we will invoice you for reimbursement of the fee.
You must pay the registration fee before you may take
possession of the domain.
Domain Transfers
When you transfer a domain, the approval of the Administrative contact listed with the
registrar is required. In some cases, an email will be sent to the address listed for
the Administrative Contact.
You may want to upload your site a few days in advance of your transfer. Setting your site
up in advance will prevent any downtime. Your site should be visible to the rest of the Internet
within 24 hours of the transfer.
If You Want Innovative's Assistance With Your Domain Transfer:
If you sign up with Innovative, we will transfer one domain for you at no
extra charge. More domains can also be transferred at an additional fee.
You will need to provide the domain name, the name of the registrar, and the login and
password used to register the domain. The information can be provided either by phone, fax,
or, if you are signing up online, by filling out the information on our signup form. Please,
do send any e-mail with login and password information. E-mail is not secure.
What is Allowable in Domain Names?
- Use only letters, numbers, or hyphen ("-")
- Cannot begin or end with a hyphen
- com, .net, .org and .info domain names cannot exceed 67 characters total
- .info and .biz must have at least 3 characters not including .info or .biz
- Other domain names cannot exceed 22 characters, not including the extension
- Domain names are not case sensitive
- Domain names cannot include spaces
What is a registrar?
It is a company that handles the registration (gathering of pertinent information) of domain names and maintains
your contact information.
Only registrars accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) are authorized to
register .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net and .org names. We are NOT a registrar and therefore can only assist
you with the registration process.
What is ICANN?
ICANN is the non-profit corporation that is assuming responsibility from the U.S. Government for coordinating
certain Internet technical functions, including the management of Internet domain name system. More information
about ICANN can be found at http://www.icann.org.
When you register a domain name, you are inserting an entry into a directory of all the domain names and their
corresponding computers on the Internet.
Rules for registration of .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net and.org names
The .com, .info, .name, .net, and .org TLDs are open and unrestricted. Traditionally, however, names in .net have been
used by organizations involved in Internet infrastructure activities and .org is frequently used by noncommercial
organizations. .biz is reserved for use by businesses. For more information on .biz restrictions, please contact your
registrar or visit the .biz registry operator at . .name is dedicated exclusively to individuals' personal names.
What are the domain names ending with two-letter combinations, like .uk. What are the rules for registering in these domains?
Two letter domains, such as .uk, .de and .jp (for example), are called country code top level domains (ccTLDs) and correspond
to a country, territory, or other geographic location. The rules and policies for registering domain names in the ccTLDs vary
significantly and some are reserved for use by citizens of the corresponding country. You should check with the registrar
offering ccTLD registration services regarding the specific terms and conditions for registration.
Some ICANN-accredited registrars provide registration services in the ccTLDs in addition to registering names in .biz,
.com, .info, .name, .net and .org, however, ICANN does not specifically accredit registrars to provide ccTLD registration services.
For more information regarding registering names in ccTLDs, including a complete database of designated ccTLDs and
managers, please refer to http://www.iana.org/cctld/cctld.htm.
